Hokkaido Trip29 - Hakodate Roman Kan (Hakodate Asaichi) with a choice of seafood rice bowls.

On my trip to Hakodate in the fall of 2021, I stayed at the Hotel WBF Hakodate Kaijin no Yu and went out to the Hakodate morning market for breakfast.
During my trip to Hakodate in the spring of 2021, the Hakodate morning market had few tourists and many stores were closed, but this time, the market was a little more lively again, although there were no inbound tourists.

I thought about going to the main Kikuyo Shokudo restaurant again, but when I passed the Hakodate Roman Museum, I was approached by a lady, so I decided to have breakfast here.

Hakodate Roman Kan

Address : 9-23 Wakamatsu-cho, Hakodate, Hokkaido

Access : 3 minute walk from Hakodate Station.

Pass the building housing the Lucky Piero Hakodate Ekimae Store and turn right.

The restaurant we visited is operated by Hakodate Roman Kan, which sells crab, salmon roe, sea urchin, etc.

The Hakodate Roman Kan's merchandise sales are located diagonally across from the restaurant, but we were caught in front of the store and directed to this store.

A lady was touting outside, but since my partner was holding off on eating raw food, she told us we could choose from a variety of grilled fish, so we decided on this restaurant.

There are two main menu items: Kaisen-don and grilled fish set menus.

Kaisen-don comes in two types (1,100 yen) or three types (1,430 yen) from a selection of 12 types (salmon roe, crab, sweet shrimp, tuna, salmon, scallop, squid, octopus, tobiko, shime saba, cod roe, sujiko, salmon flake).

If you want to add sea urchin or button shrimp in addition to the 12 kinds, you can choose 3-kinds (1,430 yen) or 5-kinds (1,980 yen). If you want the famous Hakodate three-color bowl of scallops, salmon roe, and sea urchin, the price is 1,980 yen, but this is about the same price you would pay for a bowl of rice in Hakodate Asaichi, so it is not particularly expensive.

I was told that I could have any grilled fish sold at the Hakodate Roman Kan, so I chose the Gindara set meal, which was not on the menu.

I ordered 5 kinds of rice bowl, but there was a little trouble and it became 6 kinds (salmon roe, scallop, salmon, crab, sea urchin, and botan shrimps). On that day, they also offered crab soup (100 yen) as a service.

I usually do not eat sea urchin, salmon roe, and scallops because I do not like them very much, but I enjoyed them very much in Hokkaido without any fishy smell.

The outside photo shows button shrimps with their tails, but they were all peeled off, so it didn't look good in the photo (tears).

The gindara set meal also came with crab soup.
Gindara is difficult to grill because of its high fat content, but it was grilled to a good degree and very tasty.

Perhaps it was the touting skills of the lady, but although there were not many tourists in the Hakodate morning market as a whole, new customers were constantly coming into the restaurant.

(Extra).
Squid is a Hakodate specialty, but the catch was poor in 2021, and we saw very little of it in the fish tanks at each restaurant.

The original live squid fishing pond in Hakodate Asaichi, which is very popular among tourists, did not have any squid in stock, and shrimp fishing (hooking) was conducted.
