During my trip to Hakodate in the spring of 2021, I circled Kikonai, Matsumae, Esashi, and the Oshima Peninsula.
From now on, we will guide you to the sightseeing spots in the Oshima Peninsula.
Hokkaido Shinkansen Kikonai View Spot
Address 113 Shindo, Kikonai-cho, Kamiiso District, Hokkaido
Access 1 hour from Hakodate Station by rental car, 5 minutes from Kikonai Station.
On the way from Hakodate to the cherry blossom festival in Matsumae, we stopped at the roadside station "Misogi-no-Sato Kikonai" in front of Kikonai Station.
After that, I decided to stop by the Shinkansen view spot when I saw a signboard that said "Shinkansen View Spot" while I was driving on the city side instead of returning to Route 228.
The Hokkaido Shinkansen Kikonai View Spot is a spot where you can see the Shinkansen coming out of the tunnel from the top of a small mountain. Please note that there is nothing else but the view spot (no vending machines or toilets).
(View Spot)
The view spot is a simple structure but there are fixed binoculars (free) at the top of the stairs.
(Information board)
After climbing the view spot, there was an information board about the scheduled passing time of the Hokkaido Shinkansen.
On this day, it seemed that the Shinkansen had passed a little earlier and we had to wait about 30 minutes for the next one, so we decided to give up on seeing it.
(View from the view spot)
The open area in front of Kikonai Station and other urban areas are on the Kikonai side.
This is the Matsumae side, and the tunnel can be seen in the distance here.
You can also view the coastline side, but the weather was bad that day and it was not photogenic.
(Tunnel through binoculars)
I looked at the tunnel on the Matsumae side through the binoculars.
The binoculars have good performance, so it will be very realistic when the Shinkansen passes by (first-come-first-served).
Unfortunately, we were not able to visit the tunnel at the time when the Shinkansen was coming through, but if you are planning to visit the tunnel, it is recommended to check the time in advance.
