Hokkaido Trip 4 - Stayed at Hotel Sonia Otaru

スポンサードリンク

I was out in Hokkaido this summer.

I took a wander around Hokkaido. I had visited Otaru several times but had never seen the canal at night, so I decided to stay at Hotel Sonia Otaru in front of the canal in Otaru.

The concept is.

Approximately 70% of the 149 rooms face the Otaru Canal. The South and North Wings, both wings of the hotel, have a classical and relaxed atmosphere created by antique English furniture and lighting.

The official website is here.

We rented a car to get around Hokkaido, but there is no parking on the main entrance side, and the Hotel Sonia Otaru parking lot is located on the back street.

Please note that the parking lot of Hotel Nord Otaru, which is next to Hotel Sonia Otaru and belongs to the same family, can be entered from the canal side, but it is a different parking lot.

Otaru City has landscape regulations regarding the canal area, and many of the buildings have retro exteriors.

The interior of Hotel Nord Otaru also has a retro, Western-style interior on the first floor.

If you book through Expedia, you get a cup of coffee and a snack.

I couldn't stop by at night due to the short opening hours (10:00-18:00), but I stopped by before leaving in the morning.

It is a stylish cafe and I thought it would be crowded with people if there were many tourists since there are not many cafes around Otaru Canal.

Since we were staying in front of the Otaru Canal, we chose a canal-side room for the day.

It is Canal Standard A. It was 10,000 yen per night for two people because there were extremely few tourists.

The rooms also have a calm, European feel. Amenities include a multi-charger for cell phones, which is always available.

Since it is in front of the Otaru Canal, you can also see the night view from the room. I made the painful mistake of forgetting to take a picture of the night view...

The Otaru Canal is lit by gas lamps until midnight, so the night view was beautiful.

Hotel Sonia has a hot spring bath in the large bathroom, and since it is on a high floor, the night view can be seen from there as well.

I have the impression that many hotels in Hokkaido have large bathrooms because of the frequent travel, but this hotel has the advantage that you can relax in the hot spring and enjoy the night view of the canal.

I would like to stay here again if I stay in Otaru.
